Celebrating Will to Give 2021
It’s not every day that you receive a gift from a Will that is 260 years old. But when The Gill’s Charity, based in Carrickfergus, got in touch with the Community Foundation two years ago that was the eventual result. In this episode Marcus Cooper, Foundations Fund Development Manager joins Claire Smyth from Will to Give to discuss how Henry Gill’s gift in a Will dating back to 1761 is still making a difference today.
Capacity building in the Third sector
In August 2020, the Department for Communities along with 5 local philanthropists announced £500k for a pioneering initiative to tackle social issues by building the capacity of the voluntary/community sector. The Capacity Building Fund is managed and administered by the Community Foundation. Grants up to £15,000 were available to the sector alongside a package of support delivered by NICVA, mentoring and training to help with innovation, sustainability and resilience. Listen below to Siofra Healy, Director of Philanthropy at the Foundation and Sandra Bailie, Head of Organisational Development at NICVA, as they discuss how the capacity programme is going and the need for more of similar programmes to grow capacity in the sector.

Covid and Grantmaking
In the first of our podcasts, we caught up with Orla, the Foundation’s grants director and Jane, a Trustee of the Foundation to hear about how the charity sector and communities responded quickly to Covid19. From the creation of a new fund of £70,000 which grew to award £5 million supporting over 800 communities in Northern Ireland, we hear how groups worked creatively and tirelessly (and continue to do so) to support the most vulnerable in society.
