The Foyle Foundation was formed to implement the will of the late Christina Foyle. She was the daughter of William Foyle who, with his brother, founded the former family-owned bookshop Foyles in Charing Cross Road, London.

The Foundation completed its grant giving programme at the end of 2025, marking 25 years of giving to the fields of the arts, learning, community small grants, state school libraries and health.

The Foyle Foundation has appointed the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland to deliver a final small grants fund on its behalf for community organisations in Northern Ireland.

Tyrone 3 Community Benefit Fund

This local community fund has been set up by Energia Renewables, working in close partnership with local groups from the areas surrounding the Tyrone 3 Windfarms. The Tyrone 3 Windfarms comprises three farms, which are:

• Altamuskin (6 wind turbines / 14.1MW)
• Eshmore (3 wind turbines / 7.0MW)
• Gortfinbar (5 wind turbines / 15.0.MW)

The windfarms are situated in close proximity to each other between the town of Ballygawley and the villages of Carrickmore, Sixmilecross and Beragh in County Tyrone. They are located in the Mid Ulster District and Fermanagh and Omagh District Council areas respectively.

Energia has set up the fund to ensure that the wind farm, whilst having obvious environmental benefits, will also provide significant social and economic benefits to the local community. The Tyrone 3 Windfarms Community Benefit Fund will be administered by the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland.

Funding will be available to local community projects that are planned and run for the benefit of the local population and are within the 5 mile radius – as per map.

Applicant organisations must be located within the 5-mile radius.

Rathsherry Community Benefit Fund

• Applicant organisations must be located within the 6mile radius of the windfarm (*straight-line measurement).

• Grant size:

• Grants of £1,000 to £3,000  Partnership applications - up to £9,000 (each partner will receive a maximum of £3,000 to support project) 

• Priorities:

• The fund will support projects addressing issues within the following theme areas: *Energy efficiency and sustainability *Social, cultural or sporting benefit for the local community *Educational issues with a sustainability angle *Environmental benefit or economic benefit  

This local community fund has been set up by Energia Renewables, working in close partnership with local groups from the areas surrounding Rathsherry Windfarm.   

Energia Renewables has pledged to deliver a Community Benefit Fund for a 21.15 MW Wind Farm located at 115 Longmore Road, Broughshane, Ballymena, BT43 7HR. Grants will be delivered annually for the benefit of community initiatives within the area of benefit. 

Energia has set up the fund to ensure that the wind farm, whilst having obvious environmental benefits, will also provide significant social and economic benefits to the local community.  

 Funding will be available to local community projects that are planned and run for the benefit of the local population and are within 6 miles of the centre of the windfarm.

Applicant organisations must be located within the 6mile radius of the windfarm (*straight-line measurement).

SWEF Enterprise Fund Start-Up Grant

• Priorities:

• To be eligible to apply, you need to: - Be between the ages of 18-30 - Live in Northern Ireland - Applications must come from a majority shareholder - Be from a low-income household or facing other financial challenges preventing you from developing your business - The item that grant funding is going towards should not exceed £2,000 in value.

Community Foundation NI is working in partnership with SWEF Enterprise Fund which helps young people from Northern Ireland develop their business idea and gain support with business investment that they would otherwise not be able to afford.

Start Up Grant:
For: Pre-revenue businesses or businesses turning over less than £500 per month.
Applicants must be between the age of 18-30
Start-up grants are awarded up to £500

SWEF Enterprise Fund Business Grant

• Priorities:

• To be eligible to apply, you need to: - Be between the ages of 18-30 - Live in Northern Ireland - Applications must come from a majority shareholder. If a limited company, you need to be the majority owner of the business. A business partner over the age of 30 may not hold more than 20% - Be from a low-income household or facing other financial challenges preventing you from developing your business

Community Foundation NI is working in partnership with SWEF Enterprise Fund which helps young people from Northern Ireland develop their business idea and gain support with business investment that they would otherwise not be able to afford.

Business Grant: 
For: Businesses turning over more than £500 per month that have been trading for less than 2 years.
Applicants must be between the age of 18-30
Business grants are awarded up to £2,000
