Our Impact

Mid & East Antrim Agewell Project

Name: Mid & East Antrim Agewell Project

Purpose: To improve the lives of older people across the Ballymena, Larne & Carrickfergus area

Tech challenge: Providing a digital solution for isolated, vulnerable older people to access and use technology safely

Techie: Damien and Colleen, Damgeo

Mid & East Antrim Agewell Project engaging with over 120 older people groups across the Ballymena, Larne and Carrickfergus area, through various activities, events and trips. Since the pandemic, their services have moved online to support this demographic. However, the lack of know-how, equipment and internet connection has left many of these already vulnerable people socially excluded and with little contact with the outside world.

Mid & East Antrim Agewell Project joined the Techies in Residence programme to find a solution to overcome these barriers. With the help of techies Damien and Colleen from Damgeo together they will work to develop a digital solution for isolated, vulnerable older people, enabling them to access and use digital technology becoming virtually connected via video calls and online services. This digital solution would also aim to address the barriers of navigating new technology, scams, and login details which can cause major frustration for older people when using online platforms.

Stay tuned to hear how they progress throughout the Techies and Residence programme.
