The Micro Grant


Introduction:

The Micro Grant Programme has been established in recognition and celebration of the contribution of voluntary groups and people to our society and the need for a simple application process for small amounts of funding. 

You do not have to have a constitution to apply to this fund.

Established groups should have maximum annual income level of £30,000 with the Community Foundation having a preference for applications that are eligible for an award where annual income is less than £10k

 

Grants available: Up to £1,000

 

Eligibility:

Who can apply?

  • Community organisations based within Northern Ireland.  You do not need to have a governing document to apply to this fund.
  • Organisations who have a maximum annual income of less than £30k. A preference will be given to organisations with an annual income of less than £10k.

Grants available: Up to £1,000

What can be supported?

Applications are sought to support the following:

  • Promoting inclusion and belonging
  • Promoting small environmental improvement activities
  • Promoting physical activity which uses the assets located within the area
  • Focussing on the positive contribution of people within the community
  • Enabling active participation of a community in decision-making and involvement in making their community a better place to live in
  • Helping get people engaged in taking community action where it hasn’t happened before

There are some general things that our grant aid cannot be used for:

In general we will support any costs associated with your project, however, there are some things that the fund will not support:

The Foundation will not fund organisations or activities which promote causes that are contrary to our purposes.  Causes and activities that are contrary to our purposes include, but may not be limited to, those outlined in our investment policy.  We will not therefore fund organisations or activities which we determine are linked to the promotion of armaments, alcohol, human rights abuses, tobacco or pornography.

In addition the micro grant will not support:

  • The advancement of religion. This includes organisations whose purposes include advancement of religion;
  • The establishment of endowment of any school or institution providing further education within the meaning of the education and libraries (Northern Ireland) order 1972;
  • The provision of assistance to any Housing Association within the meaning of the housing (Northern Ireland) order 1976 – *Note: Housing Associations will be eligible for some funds, providing they meet all other eligibility requirements, and if they apply as part of a partnership project, and are not named as the applicant organisation.
  • Groups with income over £30,000 per annum
  • Trips outside of Northern Ireland 
  • Individual applications 
  • Purchase of vehicles
  • Running costs of large organisations
  • Holiday schemes
  • Parties and shopping trips
  • Promotion of religion or political activity
  • Applications from statutory organisations

Closing dates and awarding of grants:

The fund will be open for applications from 10am on 4th November 2019 and will open on a rolling call basis.
